Host not accessible

I have a demonstration web app running behind a corporate firewall.
I believe HttpVPN would be ideal for allowing customers to view the app.

After running the Proxy manager and adding a new proxy, this appears to fail (a dialog is displayed), however the new proxy appears on the portal site.
The status of the new proxy is 'host not accessible'.

Initially I thought this was due to the ping being disabled, but I have enabled this (and verified) and it still shows not accessible.

Can you please tell me exactly how the active/accessible status is determined?

Thanks

Hi there!

We are sorry for the inconvenience. HttpVPN Proxy running inside your network would need port 1802 open for outbound connections, the lack of which is the most common reason of HttpVPN proxy not being able to talk to the portal. Otherwise, please take a look at Windows Event Log to see if there are any errors related to UltiDev HttpVPN. Also please see whether there is a running service process with "HttpVPN" name in it.

Please let us know what you have found.

Best regards,

Thanks for the prompt reply.

I am pretty sure that the Proxy Manager IS connecting with the portal OK, because I can logon, and the entered proxy name subsequently appears on the portal page.

The problem is that the portal page shows the status as 'Host not accessible'.
When I look at the HttpVPN proxy settings it shows:
Connection is Host is not accessible.
Last ping occurred Never ago.
Next ping due in Unknown.

I assume from this that the accessibility of the proxy is determined by pinging at regular intervals?

I have verified that I can ping the IP address of my router from outside the network.

I did find an entry in the Windows event log:
A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond 99.1.223.173:1802

There is a service called: 'UltiDev HttpVPN Proxy Service' and it is running.

Thanks again.

Hi!

What you report looks very much like port 1802 blocked. Currently HttpVPN Proxy ferries requests and responses from and to the Portal using port 1802. You can test this theory by pointing browser to https://firewall.myownsecureweb.com:1802/. If you get SSL warning, go past it and see IIS 403 forbidden page or anything else, then 1802 is open. If you get connection failure, then 1802 is blocked.

Thanks for the info.

Our firewall was not allowing outgoing traffic on port 1802.

Problem is resolved!

Many Thanks

No a problem! Although next release of HttpVPN is somewhat in the future, we will make sure that Proxy speaks to the Portal via port 443.

Best wishes,
