Making web sites available to other computers on home network

I have UltiDev Cassini server installed on my pc. I can view my 2.0 website without problems (even AJAX works!). But when I tried accessing the site from another computer on my home network (both are windows xp home computers) it can't find the site. I tried making the directory where my web site exists a shared folder but that did not help. I assume it's a setting in my home network, the way I'm formatting the URL or something with the share. Any ideas for a newbie? Thanks.

Hi,

Our Cassini does support remote connections - you are probably having some sort of networking issue. Please ensure the remote URL was in the format of
Code:
http://<remote machine name>:<application port number>/
like http://homeserver:4567/. If you still cannot access your application, check whether machine name of the server can be resolved on the client - try to ping the server from the client. If machine name does not resolve, try IP address instead or try modifying your hosts files on the client box to map remote machine name to its IP address. You certainly don't need to have a share.

It was a networking issue. Pinging the machine worked fine. It was my Windows XP Firewall settings on my computer with the web server that were preventing the other computers from connecting. I found I could resolve the issue by creating an exception for Windows Firewall: Either create an exception for the specific application port number (for example port 4567) or create an exception for the web server program (C:\Program Files\UltiDev\Cassini Web Server for ASP.NET 2.0\UltiDevCassinWebServer2.exe). Either option allowed my other computers access to the web site. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!
