Hi!

Apparetnly UltiDev Cassini service has not started successfully (provided Cassini Web Server component is installed). Please take a look at your Windows Application Event Log (Control Panel -> Admin Tools). There you should find Error entries related to UltiDev Cassini. Please forward them to us and we will help troubleshoot the issue. If you have installed and then uninstalled Cassini before you started getting this error, please take a look at this article. Also please look at Control Panel -> Add/Remove Applications to be sure you have both UltiDev Cassini Explorer and UltiDev Cassini Web Server installed.

Best regards,
UltiDev Team.

The very same problem is happening to me, as shown in the video posted by hblott14.
I've been happily developing and testing websites for a couple of months when yesterday, while I was doing the tests I did many times before, the service suddenly stopped. I tried restarting it manually, reinstalling it, restarting my machine but all this lead to no solution. I'm aware of the CassiniMetabase.xml file, tried to mess with it a little but with no luck.
Whenever I make a request to any application or to the WebServer Explorer, the service goes away and, as a consequence, the browser returns a "Connection failed" error.

Here is what I can see from the Event Viewer.

Event Viewer > Application.
Nothing relevant here. Just a bunch of info messages stating:
Successfully started Cassini web application [1761, "Application1"].
Successfully started Cassini web application [1761, "Application2"].
Successfully started Cassini web application [1761, "ApplicationAndSoOn"].

This should mean the service is starting correctly, but dies after a request for an unknown reason.

Event Viewer > System

When the service stops, the following entry labeled "Service Control Manager" is listed (translating from italian)

Original message: Interruzione imprevista del servizio UltiDev Cassini Web Server for ASP.NET 2.0. Questo evento si è già verificato 3 volta(e).
Translated message: Sudden interruption of the service UltiDev Cassini Web Server for ASP.NET 2.0. This event happened 3 time(s) already.
No stack trace and no other information is included within this log entry.

What should I do? This is all too generic for me to understand the problem :(
Thanks for support.

Hi there.

Sorry for the inconvenience. We noticed that your applications "Application1", "Application2" and "ApplicationAndSoOn" are all on the same port, although this should not have killed Cassini service. We would have to look at your Windows event log to try to find out what's going on. Please contact us by email so we could respond and provide you with email address where to send exported event log as an attachment.

Best regards,
UltiDev Team.

oops, I just copied and pasted the same line without changing the port number. You know, it was just to make an example ^^'
My applications DO have unique port numbers. However, after a complete wipe and re-install the only application found in CassiniMetabase.xml is the Explorer and still the service stops as soon as I launch it.

Actual content of my CassiniMetabase.xml
Code:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<CassiningMetabase xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema">
<Application FrameworkVersion="1.1" KeepRunning="true">
<PhysicalPath>C:\Programmi\UltiDev\Cassini Web Server Explorer</PhysicalPath>
<Port>7756</Port>
<Name>UltiDev Cassini Web Server Explorer</Name>
<Description>Cassini Web Server configuration utility</Description>
<DefaultDocument />
<ApplicationID>4fd8b3f7-bc73-4583-95fe-e7b69b10a3ae</ApplicationID>
</Application>
</CassiningMetabase>

Email sent.

you guys might think I'm joking but it has now started working again.
I reinstalled the WebServer *again* 10 minutes ago and this time I can browse the Application Explorer or any other application I register.

I made a dump of my event log starting from the installation onwards. I'm willing to send it as soon as I receive response from you.

No worries, we know all well that strange things happen with software. We don't like when they happen with our software though. We've responded to your email and will be happy to look up the event log and hopefully see something causing the issue.
