Hey,

I am attempting to install Casini for the first time on a dev machine. It wont install, complaining that a file it is trying to download is corrupt - any ideas on how to rectify this?

From the install log:

Thanks for your help.

Bob,

It looks like downloaded & cached file is corrupted. Try to remove "Temp\VSD113.tmp\UltiDev Cassini Web Server for ASP.NET 2.0\cassiniexplorersetup.msi" file and run Cassini install one more time. If problem won't go away, please contact us via email and we'll find a way to get missing components to you.

Best regards,

Thanks for the reply.

Still no joy though - that file did not actually exist. The directory was there, but nothing in it.

Had a thought - could it be the network here that is blocking the file? Does the installer download the files via http or via another port? I would have thought it would have errored if this was the case, rather than displaying a spurious corruption message, but hey, you never know!

I'll email you as suggested.

Please send us an email. We do come across this issue once in a while, but don't know what causes it. This functionality is part of the MS setup.exe bootstrapper and therefore we don't have control over it. The download URL for Cassini prerequisites is HTTP-based. Why MS bootstrapper can't do better job while determining whether file was successfully downloaded is beyond our comprehension.

Thanks for the reply - and thanks for the email I received.

I just spoke to our infrastructure team who happily informed me that I am not one of the users on the network that is allowed to download anything we want from the network. WebMarshall settings stop us lowly developers from downloading it. Of course this is transparent to me in this case, as I dont get the error displayed in a browser as I guess I normally would.

Hopefully this info allows you to work out some solution - and lets your other users know of this issue - there seems to be no information anywhere on your site that alludes to the problem (well none that I could find anyway...)

Once again thanks for the speedy resoloution.

You're welcome!

We suspect that your firewall bans the download while still returning HTTP/200, which makes setup think file was downloaded just fine. Subsequent installation attempt fails of course in this situation.
