From user email:
"We are still using UltiDev Cassini Web Server and are now thinking about upgrading to the Pro version. Could you please let me know if it is possible to simply upgrade to the pro version with keeping all existing sites registered?"

The answer is yes, in vast majority of cases. You can simply run UWS installation and it will upgrade (uninstall) Cassini 2.0 and disable Cassini 1.1 service if it's installed, while keeping all the applications running in Cassini compatibility mode - under the Local System user context, and using AnyCPU bitness (64 bit on x64 systems, 32 bit on x86), for maximum compatibility with Cassini. The difference is somewhat bigger for .NET 1.x applications. Although they are run as 32 bit, UWS uses CLR2 to host 1.1 applications. In most cases it's fine, although hosting using CLR1, as Cassini does, is not 100% same environment and small subset of 1.1 applications performs slightly differently.

Although in most cases upgrading of Cassini to UWS just works, we recommend all users with large-scale Cassini deployments to practice upgrading in a controlled environment first, and then do limited roll-outs first.

UWS is much more stable and resilient than Cassini. It's much better at surviving application crashes and at restarting its host processes. If your run lots of computers hosting applications under Cassini, your experience with UWS is very likely to be better - mostly through much shorter downtimes.

Unlike Cassini, UWS provides a choice of host process user identity: Local System (powerful/dangerous) and Network Service (restricted/safe). For those running lots of Cassini, migration could start with simply upgrading to UWS to take advantage of better stability of UWS, and then for applications requiring higher security, move them off the Cassini compatibility hosting mode, to the UWS mode where Network Service host identity is available.

Overall, upgrading from Cassini to UWS is a very good idea in vast majority of cases.
