I'm trying the SHORTCUT1ICONFILE-option to get a customized desctop icon with my VS2010 installation, but with no success. Could you please point me into the right direction ? The icon file ist installed with the app (target root path). Registration is as this:

"[ProgramFilesFolder]\UltiDev\Web Server\UWS.RegApp.exe" /r /AppID:"[UpgradeCode]" /path:"[TARGETDIR]" /SHORTCUT1ICONFILE:"[TARGETDIR]\myapp.ico" /DefaultDoc:default.html /force32:true /Endpoints:"http://*:0" /Name:"MyApp" /Autostart

Hi there!

We tested this scenario by creating a .BAT file with the command line you provided, and replaced paths to application location and icon files we have here, and were unable to reproduce the problem. It has created the icon on the desktop. Here's our command line:

Please the command line above (as Administrator) and let us know whether you've got the icon created.

Please note that sometimes Windows caches icons after they were deleted and recreating an shortcut in the same place with a different icon sometimes shows the same icon. To deal with the effect you may want to temporarily create the shortcut in a different folder.

thanks a lot for your quick response. Indeed, your sample works well and creates an icon as expected.

Dear UltiDev team members,
I found an issue, where german umlauts in icon path name will cause an registration error. I get an error message, where the letter 'ö' is coded to something different. The resulting path is then invalid.

Finally, it works, if the icon path name does not contain any umlauts.

Hi,

While testing this issue in-depth in attempt to fix it, we determined that our registration utility handles umlauts correctly. We placed an icon in a folder named "ü ö ä Ä Ü Ö ß", and ran registration command line, and we didn't get the error. After looking at the screenshot, it's evident that command line had incorrectly converted umlauts before calling AppReg utility, which is probably a bug in the installation authoring system you chose, over which we, unfortunately, don't have any control.
