Dear Support,

I have a web service hosting on the Ultidev Web Server Pro on port 10123. If I enter http://localhost:10123/, I got an error (see attachment 1). I do not have this issue on Windows 7 (see attachment 2). On XP, it did not happen on the non-Pro version either.

Thank you for attaching screenshots - a picture is always worth thousand words. It's strange indeed. What if you made the URL look like http://localhost:10123/Service.asmx instead of http://localhost:10123/? Does it change anything?

Another thing to try is to run the service under UWS Interactive Host and see if you have the same issue. To make UWS Interactive Host listen to external addresses be sure to run the interactive host as administrator. UWS interactive host traces requests. See if there are differences between host localhost and IP requests are mapped and handled. Feel free to copy & paste and attach trace here.

Please review my question again because my earlier report was not correct and I have since corrected it. Here is what I test:

1. It will work if I set enumDb as the virtual directory and enter http://localhost:10123/enumDb/.

2. It won't work if I set "" as the virtual directory and enter http://localhost:10123/enumDb/ or http://localhost:10123/.

Here is the trace from the Interactive User for case 1:

09:51:07.4843 PM Handling request for "/enumDb/" mapped to "E:\Program Files\INFOMATO\One Album Server\enumDb".
09:51:07.4843 PM Request path modified to "/enumDb/Service.asmx" mapped to "E:\Program Files\INFOMATO\One Album Server\enumDb\Service.asmx".
09:51:07.5000 PM SendResponseFromMemory(): Starting serving "/enumDb/Service.asmx" as uncompressed (or compressed by application) text/html; charset=utf-8. HTTP result 200. Data length: 5616
09:51:07.5468 PM Written 5616 bytes in response to request for "http://localhost:10123/enumDb/".

Please note that the this does not happen on a Windows 7 machine (64bits) somehow.

We were unable to reproduce this problem. We tried both Windows 7 and XP, and had no problem. We used blank (/) virtual directory, made Service.asmx a default document. Can you try another XP system to see if the problem is specific to the system in question?

The error you get seems to indicate that you have ASP.NET application that was not built first, i.e. .cs code-behind was not compiled into a DLL in Bin folder.

This ("code-behind was not compiled into a DLL") is unlikely because if I enter the virtual directory in Ultidev Pro Server, it will work. I do not have another XP machine at hand at this moment. I will try to find one.

You're right. That clearly rules out the "not compiled" as a possible cause. Could you please attach "C:\ProgramData\UltiDev\WebServer\UWS.Configuration.xml" from the problematic XP box for us to take a look. Also, if you can attach the project you have an issue with, or better, if you can create a new clean project with just a web service and reproduce the problem with it, we would greatly appreciate it.
