Read through the documentation of HTTPVPN. Have a couple of questions though (gray area). is HTTPVPN a suggestable solution for a public website? What are the major advantages, or disadvantages of having this VPN on top of an already working app? Is it just another layer of security?

Jay,

HttpVPN is an easy way to make a behind-the-firewall web application accessible on the Internet. If you can set up your router and DNS (or have a static IP), then you can do without HttpVPN. However, for most people making a web application (running inside a home or small office network) accessible on a web is a very difficult thing, and HttpVPN simplifies this task a great deal.

ok. we already have static ip and router setup (including port forwarding) so it sounds like it would be unecessary at this point. even though the app is a behind-the-firewall.

You are right, Jay. If your application is already accessible on the web, or you know how to make it accessible, HttpVPN won't be necessary. HttpVPN is for people who don't know much about routers, DNS, static IPs, SSL, etc. HttpVPN is a solution that after a 3-page wizard makes a behind-the-firewall web application securely accessible on the Internet to a defined circle of users.
