Hi there,

I am new to the Cassini Web Server. I have a ASP.NET application which has the following code


string name = HttpContext.Current.User.Identity.Name.ToString();

Works fine when hosted on IIS Web server does not work when hosted on Cassini Web Server. I am not sure what I need to do to get the HttpContext.Current.User.Identity.Name information when hosted on Cassini.


Help will be appreciated.

Hi,

HttpContext.Current.User returns information for authenticated user. Which form of authentication does your application use? Current version of Cassini supports only Forms auth. Upcoming UltiDev Web Server Pro will add support of Windows/Integrated, Basic and Digest.

Unfortunately Windows authentication is not supported in UltiDev Cassini. Upcoming UltiDev Web Server Pro will have this feature. Meanwhile only Forms authentication is going to work. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Hi Ultidev Team,

Do you have a release date (and pricing) for UltoDev Web Server Pro? Windows Authentication is a requirement for our currnet project.

Hello, John!

Thank you much for the positive feedback. UltiDev Web Server Pro will be free of charge. We are working very hard to get the first Beta out of the door before the of the month, but it's very tight. However, we are very close to the finish and it's weeks, not months before we release it. We hope to release two betas in fast succession and do a final GA release in Jan.

If you want us to test the windows authentication part of an early beta, we'd be delighted to.

It would save me changing loads of code in my application so it might work out for both of us.

We'll get the earliest Beta to you as soon as we have something installable. At this point applications can be registered with UltiDev Web Server Pro only with a command line utility or programmatically (.NET or COM), but not interactively with UI. Also, installer is not ready yet. However, we work on this and make significant progress. We are sure the product will be much better than before, especially if we manage to keep it as reliable as previous one.
