Cassini can't create new window ?

Hello !

I'm working in a consultant house and search an answer for the following issue :

We use cassini to show some portal we made offline to customers ( at the customer so we have no internet / internet would just be needed to access the dataprovider ).
Now we have the following problem :
When the browser shall open a new window ( in our example it's the users list to select a user for the permissions page so he gets specific permissions ) the window will open with plain white content and the mouse will get an infinite sandwatch besides the mouse cursor.
This is all that actually happens.
First we thought its a coding error from our side but we soon found out that this problem only happens if the browser opens a new browser window in cassini.
We can use the source code on any server we have and so on and it will work fine via LAN access.

We have a temporary workaround ( fix the user permissions in the SQl table in the dataprovider ) but that is bad if you would have to show it to a customer and this isn't ( of course ) really showing the easy user handling of the portal ;)

After some "googling" for this problem, we have now the idea that it could be the localhost resolution problem, but we couldnt find a way to test/fix it this way, so finally i'm here to ask for your help.

Hi, DjDede.

If the problem lies with localhost resolution, it may indicate that localhost is resolved as IPv6 ::1 address, instead of IPv4 127.0.0.1. UltiDev Cassini does not listed on IPv6 addresses - only on IPv4. You can verify that by pinging localhost and see how it's resolved. If you need to change localhost address, you can do that by modifying "hosts" file in "c:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc" folder. However, if localhost is resolved as 127.0.0.1, then it's not a DNS issue.

Another thing keep in mind is that Cassini service is running under "Local System" user account. This user's permissions may affect how security-related code behaves in your app. When you run your application in IIS, it's likely to run in "Network Service" account context (which is more restricted than Local System), and when you debug your ASP.NET application in Visual Studio development web server (WebDev), it is running under your own user account.

Thanks for the hint and advices.
Awfully it is not a user restriction problem ( the network service problem you mentioned ).

We hope to find the source of this problem and i will tell you if we found ou something new.

Well we came now to the conclusion that it has to be the laptop we are testing it on.
We will reinstall the laptop and i guess it will work again.
We couldn't find any other source which could be the problem.

If it worked i'll tell here again so all can take a deep breath because there aren't any bugs in cassini ;)

Again very much thank for your fast responses and satisfying help/support.

For something that's free its very unusual to have such good conditions !

Hope we meet again soon ( in a positive way ;) not bug reports or something else ).

The reason why we can provide pretty good support is because we managed so far to keep Cassini simple and reliable: despite having 300,000+ installation of the product worldwide, we have very few support requests. Just take a look at this forum: sometimes we go a week or longer without a single problem reported.
