Hi folks.

We are getting feedback that a user can't install UltiDev under 64bit Windows 7 (the .NET 1.1 version of UltiDev, BTW).

Have you had an reports on this?

No, we have not received any reports of Cassini 1.1 incompatibility. Just in case, we have ran installation of Cassini 1.1 on a clean Windows 7 x64 system, and had no problem - it behaved just like Vista did: Cassini installation prompted to install .NET Framework 1.1 and then NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1. Windows 7 said NET Framework 1.1 is not compatible, but if one hits Continue button, installation of NET Framework 1.1 goes on fine. The same with NET Framework 1.1 SP1. After NET Framework 1.1 and SP1 are installed, UltiDev Cassini installed without a hitch.

If you could provide more information on what is the exact nature of the issue your customer is experiencing, we may be able to figure out what needs to be done.

Hi again,

Looking back over some older installations, I note we use CassiniExplorerSetup.msi dated 5/26/07 and CassiniServer1Setup.msi with the same date. The author in both cases is UltiDev LLC.

I can't locate the source of those files and here's the stupid question: did I get those from a download from you?

UPDATE:

Is that the correct location?

Yes, that's correct location if you need to install Cassini runtime components manually. As far as whether your application has actually installed UltiDev Cassini before installing itself depends on whether you have replaced Setup.exe bootstrapper provided by Visual Studio .NET 2003 with the one provided by UltiDev Cassini, as described here in the "Replacing the original Setup.exe with Cassini's Setup.exe as Part of the Build Process" section. Our Setup.exe downloads and installs UltiDev Cassini components before starting your application installation.

Hi Guys,

We are having a problem with Win 7 64 bit, executing the following:

"c:\Program Files (x86)\UltiDev\Cassini Web Server for ASP.NET 1.1\ultidevcassinwebserver.exe" /register "C:\users\public\Program Files\D1\Q1\Q0" "262a9c10-2c0f-4965-9805-c4db550f9d30" "start.aspx" "85" /DontKeepRunning

web server says it has registered, but when we view the explorer, it's not registered:

**************
Application "Q0" has been registered with ID 262A9C10-2C0F-4965-98
05-C4DB550F9D30 at port 85.
**************

I can go into Explorer and manually set up an application with no problem, but the command line stuff doesn't seem to stick.

Any suggestions? Is it a UAC thing or something like that?

We tested this issue and determined that the problem you have reported happens when ultidevcassinwebserver.exe is not running as administrator. Once we have ran command prompt as administrator, the issue went away, and application has registered properly. The process that launches the command should either have manifest demanding admin rights on Vista and Win7, or it could simply have a name including "setup" or "install" in its name - Windows then pops up elevation-to-admin prompt too. For example, you may create a BAT file named something like "AppSetup.bat" and put the command there.
