All, can you please confirm that the failure occurs even when Vista's dreaded User Access Control (UAC) is off?

Also happen for me when using language pack for Vista

UAC = Off
Downloaded the two MSI packages.
"msiexec /passive /i CassiniExplorerSetup.msi"

EventLog\Application:
Code:

Product: UltiDev Cassini Web Server Explorer -- Error 1001.
(NULL)
(NULL)
(NULL)
(NULL)

Code:

Product: UltiDev Cassini Web Server Explorer -- Installation failed.

Code:

Windows Installer har installeret produktet. Produktnavn: UltiDev Cassini Web Server Explorer. Produktversion: 1.0.4. Produktsprog: 1033. Installationen lykkedes eller fejlstatus: 1603.

Files after failed installtion:
Code:

C:\Program files\UltiDev\Cassini Web Server Explorer\bin\
TBD16F8.tmp
TBDAF8E.tmp
UltiDevCassiniExplorer1a.InstallState

Vista Home Premium and Ultimate in English = Cassini install's correctly.

Vista Home Premium and Ultimate with Danish language pack = Installation fails.

Peter,

Is it English version of Vista with Danish language pack? If so we can certainly try to re-created the issue. Any other details would be greatly appreciated. For example, did you try installing Cassini on the same machine with and without the language pack? If those were different machines, could you please let us know what those machines are. So far this issue seems to be limited to machines sold in Europe.

Thanks much, best regards,

Yes, it's an English OPK with the Danish Language pack integrated, according to the OPK documentation.

Same machine same patches etc. when selection English in OOBE it seems to work, when reinstalling Vista and selecting Danish in OOBE the installation fail.

Sorry, what's "OPK" and "OOBE"?

Did you install language pack from the Windows Update panel? If not, could you please provide the link to the language pack you use?

Solution (at least for some)
__________________________

All, we were able to successfully troubleshoot this issue for one of the clients. The problem was that "Start Menu" Junction Point in the C:\ProgramData folder was not working. To check whether this is your problem, open Windows Explorer window, paste C:\ProgramData\Start Menu\Programs in the address bar and hit Enter. If you got an error message, then you are experiencing the same issue and the fix is below. If not, please post here, and we'll continue working on the problem.

To fix the issue, please download this archive, unzip and save the BAT file on your Vista system, right-click the BAT file and click Run As Administrator. After that navigate to the C:\ProgramData\Start Menu\Programs again and see if it's OK now. If it is, try installing UltiDev Cassini again.

If not, you may need to do a couple more manual steps:
- Go to C:\ProgramData, and use Tools | Folder Options -> View tab, to uncheck "Hide protected operating system files". This should result in quite a few junction points (links) to be shown.
- Right-click the "Start Menu" link/JP and then do Properties -> Security tab -> Edit button.
- Select Administrators in the top list and check "Full Control" box in Allow column of the Permissions section. Click OK as many time as it will be necessary, then run the BAT (as administrator) again and check whether you can get to the C:\ProgramData\Start Menu\Programs. If you can, then try installing UltiDev Cassini Web Server again.

Best regards,
UltiDev Team.

I'm pleased to report that the fix solved the issue for me.

After testing as suggested, getting the error message and then running the .bat (Which recreates the Junction Point) everything works like a charm. Webguide and it's Cassini component now install cleanly.

Excellent work on the Devs part. Thanks for sticking with the issue.

Hi!

I've found a more "user friendly" solution to this problem. I've got the same problem on a Windows Vista, Brazilian Portuguese version, without SP1. It's related to the way Visual Studio 2005 generates MSI instalation files, causing troubles with windows User Access Control (UAC) in Vista. MSI files builded by VS 2008 do not present the same problem.

So, the solution is here: http://hunter555.blogspo...e-2869-msi-and-uac.html

Or here: http://blogs.msdn.com/as...visual-studio-2005.aspx

I hope Ultidev Team make available fixed MSI Cassini files soon, avoiding future developers' problems.

Last but not least, Cassini is a great work! Congrats to Ultidev Team!

Best regards from Brazil,

Leandro
