Afternoon,
Excellent Product!! How do I get windows authentication working? I have added the usual line "<authentication mode="Windows"/>" to the web.config file but don't know how to make the Server prompt for Username/Password/Domain.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

We are sorry, but this will probably disappoint you. In this version Windows and Integrated auth is not supported. It is possible to use Basic auth by sending appropriate challenge headers back to the browser, and then handling passed credentials on your own, but we currently can't impersonate client's account. We have this feature on our wish-list for the next release, and if time allows, we'll try to make it happen.

It always helps us if you could give us some details of your use case. Using Windows auth most likely means you are using our web server for hosting some enterprise application(s). If that is the case, could you please let us know why you chose UltiDev Cassini over IIS?

Best regards,
UltiDev Team.

Hi there,
Thanks for the quick responce. We have developed a Intranet(out of the box) application and are in the final throws of Documentation and Web Site development. We are targeting SME's and realise that our major customer base probably have limited IT resources. The trial version of the product is the key to showing the potential of the product and we need the trial version to install cleanly with as little user interaction as possible. 'UltiDev Cassini Web Server' achieves this perfectly.
ASP.NET and IIS on XP as we are sure you know is a disaster which we are now fairly certain is down to .net being installed by Windows Updates, before IIS is installed and this has proved over and over again to be a stumbling block when a user is installing the product.
Currently our installer package installs 'UltiDev Cassini Web Server' by default but we recommend that the Full Product be installed on a Windows Server with IIS, due to the requirement of 'Windows Authentication' and 'Frontpage Web Extensions'(which was going to be my next question). We will await the next release and hope that it will have these features.
Many thanks.

Hi,

Thank you for letting us know. Could you please clarify whether you are looking into using Integrated auth, or combination of Basic and domain/PC auth? The reason we ask is because with Integrated authentication credentials do not get sent over the wire in clear text, while for proper implementation of Basic auth implementing SSL support would be a requirement too, which we probably won't have in the next release.

Best regards,
UltiDev Team.

Hi again,
Ideally we would like to recommend SSL but since the product is for Workgroup/Domain users on an Internal network we should be able to use straight http. We will also not be recommending the product be used on the Public Internet. To answer your question; for the above reason we should be able to recommend Integrated authentication which covers the possible SSL problem.
Thanks,
C.
