Hi there!

What kind of problem have you experienced with UAC? UltiDev Cassini should work alright with UAC on when running from a local drive on the machine. Only when Cassini is starting from a removable media (USB drive, CD) - then it's known to be affected by UAC. We would like to know more about what is happening with UAC.

Future versions of UltiDev Cassini may include separate 32-bit process for x64 systems, but for now we can't officially ship/support 32-bit build of Cassini. The reason is that on 64-bit systems 32-bit Cassini won't run native 64-bit components. So having the choice of supporting either x64 or x86 components on 64-bit systems, we decided to support 64 bit. Next version of UltiDev Cassini may have multiple IIS-like host processes, in which case running 32-bit apps will be easier. Application registration functionality will also have to change to provide "Run in 32-bit process on x64 systems" flag.

Thank you much for the feedback!

Best regards,
UltiDev Team.

Hello again!

Sorry for the delay in answering. Been pretty busy!

So in the end, we are releasing with a big warning that UAC must be turned OFF on Vista. I was unsuccessfull in having the applications work with UAC on under Vista. Everything works just fine under XP and Win7 (UAC on!).

The only thing I can say is that IE (7 in this case) ends up displaying the message "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage". The Cassini service is still running. There is no messages in the event logs.

I start Cassini as an application from the command line. This is the command line I use to start the application from a batch file:

cmd.exe /c ""%ProgramFiles%\UltiDev/Cassini Web Server for ASP.NET 2.0/UltiDevCassinWebServer2.exe" /run "%TARGETPATH%" "login.aspx" 9999"

This is what I get in the DOS window:

C:\Program Files\IATA Products\Mileage Manual 41st>echo off
UltiDev Cassini is serving ASP.NET 2.0 application
from "C:\Program Files\IATA Products\Mileage Manual 41st"
at port 9999.
Stopping Cassini...Press any key to continue . . .

This is very little info I admit... Is there a log that Cassini writes to somewhere, or that I can enable?

As a FYI, if I attempt to use the Web Server Explorer to start the application instead, it's the Web Server Explorer that will not start... I get the same IE error. Thus the problem is not related to my application per say.

If anyone has any idea on this it'd be great to have a workaround (short of turning UAC off of course!)

Thanks!

Hi there!

We would like to ask you a favor to please start another thread for this problem because it is not related to the well-known issue of 64-bit processes being unable to load 32-bit DLLs, which is what this thread focuses on? In the new thread, if you could provide steps to reproduce the problem, including what you do, and what error messages you get, we might be able to help.

Take a look at this thread discussing how UAC affects MSIs built with VS 2005 and how to work around it.

For the issue with Cassini quitting after being started, please try right-clicking the BAT and running it as administrator as see if that helps. If it does, rename the BAT so that its name would include "setup" or "install", which will make Vista and Win 7 to run it in administrative mode.

Please let us know if this information has helped.

Could you also send me the 32 bit version of the cassini web server? I have an
urgent need for it as not everything out there is 64 bit compatible. I have a web
app that uses MSAccess which uses the Jet 4.0 database engine. Unfortunately,
Microsoft never released or ever WILL release a 64 bit version of Jet! Just please
send it to my forum address.

Thx!!
Bob

Me too... Could you please send me a copy of the 32-bit exe?

I'd like to second the idea of having a 32-bit install since everything works like a charm in 32-bit world.
