Hi. I'm totally new to all this. Can the ultidev cassini redistributable component be installed and used on standalone client computer with no internet connection? Does it Just need the .net framework installed? Can it also be used on a mac (also without an internet connection)

Cassini is a web server, meaning that it could be used on a stand-alone computer with no internet connection. However, it could only serve web pages to that computer or other computers connected locally to it.

I have not seen any Mac installers so I am not sure if it can be used on Apples.

Hi there!

No worries about questions. It's all good. UltiDev Cassini runs only on Windows, and therefore Mac is not supported - sorry about that. As for the redistributable components and the Internet connection, it is possible (and easy) to create an installation package of your app that will install Cassini runtime components and won't try to download it from the Internet, placing both web server and you app on the same machine and eliminating the requirement for the Internet connection. For that you will need to build a setup package that will include all the prerequisites, which typically makes the package bigger than it would be otherwise. To include all the prerequisites into your distribution package, please click the link above and find this screenshot:

If you want your installation to include all the prerequisites, please select the second radiobutton on the Prerequisites dialog shown above.

Thanks so much. Thats exactly what I wanted to know. I guess there really is nothing that can work on a PC, Mac, and online. That would be the holy grail. I did see this: http://mono-project.com/Main_Page But I'm not sure it would be easy to redistribute it on a clients computer.

Not a problem! We are always happy to help.

Unfortunately we don't know any other easily redistributable web server that could host ASP.NET apps on Mac OS. Mono may provide most of the ASP.NET functionality on non-Windows platforms, but we are not aware of any redistributable ASP.NET web server for Mac.
