What are the known issues, if any, on getting Cassini working with Vusta x64? I'm trying to get it working with MCE WebGuide4 but it (Cassini) always crashes with errors about memory corruption while reading the machine.config.

we are sorry - we have not tested Cassini with 64 bit version of Vista. It would help us troubleshoot the issue if you could send us error messages or Event Log entries please.

I'll put together some files and descriptions for you right away. In the mean time, here is one that was easy to fix, but may point you in a direction .. (this was all 'out of the box' default installs of the OS).

It looks like ASP.NET has never been registered on the target machine and therefore folder “C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v2.0.50727\Temporary ASP.NET Files” may not exist. In 32 bit Vista Cassini installer takes care of the problem, but in 64 bit folder name for the framework has a different name (Framework64 instead of Framework). To work around the issue please try creating “Temporary ASP.NET Files” folder under “C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v2.0.50727” and let us know if that helped (it may not be the only place where we expect the .NET Framework path to be like that though).

I had already done that, but Cassini still crashes. I sent you the other errors using the contact link you provided.

Hi,

we are still working on it, but there seems to be a way to run Cassini for ASP.NET 2.0 on x64 as it is. We are able to run it after we installed IIS7, UltiDev Cassini for ASP.NET 1.1 and Visual Studio 2005. We are not quite ready to publish an official how-to, but we know for sure it is possible - with the caveat: UltiDev bin in the Start menu is still messed up, but Cassini 2.0 is not failing to start.

All,

we'll soon be releasing a new version of UltiDev Cassini Web Server (it's in QA now), which among other things will support Windows Vista x64. Meanwhile, you could try these steps to make current Cassini work on 64 bit Vista:
- Create “C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v2.0.50727\Temporary ASP.NET Files” folder if it's not there and give SYSTEM user read/write access rights to the folder, if necessary.
- Open "C:\ProgramData\UltiDev\Cassini\CassiniMetabase.xml" in the Notepad
and remove <Application> entry with "UltiDev Cassini Web Server Explorer".
Save the file and restart UltiDev Cassini windows service. It should work now.

Cassini Explorer application won't function until we release the updated version, but other web applications should work fine. It's still possible to register and unregister applications programmatically or using UltiDev Cassini Web Server in command-line mode.

Latest UltiDev Cassini with x64 Windows support has been released! All major 64-bit platforms are now supported, including Vista x64, XP Pro x64 and 2003 Server 64-bit.
