UltiDev Cassini Web Server is a free, light-weight and redistributable web server that can host multiple ASP.NET applications and static HTML pages. UltiDev Cassini is based on Cassini web server sample by Microsoft, but our version has lots of must-have functionality added. Our version of Cassini runs as a service, hosts multiple applications, and provides both UI and API for configuring web applications. Whenever you cannot use IIS, for example if you are deploying a web application on Windows XP Home - Cassini is the answer.

Cassini supports ALL features of ASP.NET, including forms authentication, web services, Ajax, etc. But since Cassini is not exactly IIS, some IIS-specific features are not supported, like Windows authentication, SSL and some IIS-specific server variable. This makes Cassini ideal for group-size intranet applications deployed in environments where IT and operations staff tasked with supporting IIS is not available.

For ASP.NET developers our version of Cassini provides ready-for-distribution setup components (as a custom Setup.exe bootstrapper or Visual Studio setup project Prerequisite), debugging capabilities, and documentation with detailed instructions on how to use Cassini for development and distribution of ASP.NET applications.

UltiDev Cassini 1.1 requires .NET Framework 1.1 and supports ASP.NET 1.1 applications. Cassini 2.0 requires .NET Framework 2.0 and supports ASP.NET applications developed for either .NET Framework 2.0 or 1.1. Cassini 1.1 and 2.0 have the same functionality and can work side-by-side.
