Web server is not running ASP.NET version 1.1

I decided to use UltiDev Cassini because I can not load my IIS because I am already upgraded on my XP Pro to SP2 and my XP install disk is only SP1.

I am trying to use UltiDev Cassini for Visual Studio 2003 to support me as I write an ASP app in Visual STudio 2003. When I try to open a New Project of project type Visual Basic -- ASP.NET Web application I get the following error message...

ERROR:
Visual Studio .NET has detected that the specified Web server is not running ASP.NET version 1.1. You will be unable to run ASP.NET web applications.

I have tried rebooting the pc. And I also tried this tip...

Tip You can open a command window directly in the correct directory for the command. From the Windows Start menu, point to Programs, Visual Studio .NET 2003, Visual Studio .NET Tools, and then choose Visual Studio .NET Command Prompt. When the window opens, type aspnet_regiis /i.


What should I do?

Bob,

We would like to get a confirmation on two points:
- You have .NET Framework 1.1 installed. To check, see if you have "C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v1.1.4322" folder with lots of DLLs and EXEs on your system.
- You have downloaded UltiDev Cassini Web Server for Visual Studio .NET 2003, not other version of UltiDev Cassini.

The bottom line, if you are running Cassini for ASP.NET 1.1, it can't use higher version of .NET Framework than 1.1. Currently we suspect that you might have installed Cassini for ASP.NET 2.0 and later. Just FIY, "aspnet_regiis /i" is an IIS-specific utility. It does not affect UltiDev Cassini.

Please let us know what you have found.

I have both these subdirectories so I guess that means I'm running .Net Framework 2.0

v1.1.4322
v2.0.50727

This is the version of UYltiDev Cassini that I installed:

UltiDevCassiniWebServer1.exe

So do I need to uninstall the UltiDevCassiniWebServer1 and install the UltiDevCassiniWebServer2? But will that integrate with my Visual Studio 2003??

It looks like you have all correct components. Try pointing your browser to http://localhost:7756/. It will bring up Cassini Explorer - an ASP.NET 1.1 application. See if that works. If it does, please post the command line you have entered as the Visual Studio's Debugging->Start Application value.

When I open to http://localhost:7756/ ... I see the Sassini ASP.NET Server page.

I am not sure what you mean by the statement...
"If it does, please post the command line you have entered as the Visual Studio's Debugging->Start Application value."

What I see on the page is
Application: wwwroot
Status: Running
Port Number: 5130
Physical Path:
C:\inetpub\wwwroot

OK, now I am with you. I did not find a an option in Visual Studio 2003 that says "Debugging->Start Application value."

Where do I look?

Please check our Developer's Guide page.

Also, after reviewing your original post, we realized that if IIS is not installed on your machine, Visual Studio .NET 2003 may not be able to create a new ASP.NET project. Unlike later versions of Visual Studio, 2003 version requires IIS in order to create a new ASP.NET project. Once project is created, it can be moved to a machine without IIS and use Cassini to debug it. If you were able to create a project, you most likely do have IIS installed.
