Yes, it's possible to read registry from an app running under UWS. Security is a consideration though. Some Registry keys require higher privileges, so you'd need to weigh the possibility of running your app under the powerful but hackable Local System user, vs safer and locked down Network Service user, which may not have access to all Registry keys.
